Esplanade House

Esplanade House was a bank checking centre overlooking the seafront in Southend-on-Sea next to the old gasworks site. It had been used by Access and Lloyds Bank before falling derelict. It has now been demolished.

Before it was demolished, me, Dave Bullock and another guy called Bradley decided that it would be a 'good' idea that one freezing cold January day, in absolute torrential rain, to go and investigate the building. We liked EH even though the majority of residents called it an ugly eyesore or carbuncle and spent years trying to get it demolished.

There were workmen from the demolition crew on the site. Without any qualms whatsoever, they let us walk around the building for several hours, risking our own lives as it was falling to pieces - holes in the floor, flooded, electrical wires hanging down. It was full of dead pigeons and it stank.
